Privacy notice
Last updated 10 October 2026
In short: we use your location or postcode only to find fuel stations near you, then discard it. We don't store it, log it, sell it or use it for advertising. There are no cookies, no analytics trackers and no ads.
Who we are
Fuel Mapper (fuelmapper.co.uk) is run by FuelMapper, who is the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact: scottmartin2711@gmail.com.
Fuel Mapper is independent and isn't affiliated with or endorsed by the UK Government.
What we use, why, and for how long
| Your location | Only if you tap Use my current location and allow it in your browser. Your browser sends your device's coordinates so we can find stations within the distance you chose. They're used to work out the results, then discarded. They're not stored, and they're not recorded in our logs. |
|---|---|
| Postcode | If you type a postcode, we look up its location, find nearby stations, then discard it. Our server may keep recently looked-up postcodes in memory for a short time to speed up repeat searches; this isn't linked to you and is cleared whenever the server restarts. |
| Technical data | Like any website, our hosting provider processes your IP address and basic browser details to deliver pages and keep the service secure. Our service logs record which features were used, errors and timings, so we can keep the site working. They don't include your location or postcode, and Azure doesn't keep your IP address in them. Logs are kept for up to 90 days. |
Our lawful basis
We rely on legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)): providing the fuel price search you ask for, and keeping the service secure and working. Sharing your location is always your choice. Your browser asks your permission first, and you can use a postcode instead.
What's stored on your device
We don't use cookies. To save you re-selecting them, your browser's local storage remembers your fuel type and distance on your device only. This is never sent to us. Your location and postcode are never saved on your device.
You can turn this off at any time, free of charge, with the Don't remember my fuel and radius link at the bottom of the main page. Clearing this site's data in your browser does the same.
Who else is involved
- Microsoft Azure hosts Fuel Mapper in its UK South (London) region, and acts on our instructions.
- postcodes.io (run by Ideal Postcodes) turns postcodes into locations. Our server sends it only the postcode, not your IP address or anything else about you.
- Google Maps, Apple Maps and Waze: if you tap a directions button, you leave Fuel Mapper. That service's own privacy policy then applies.
- UK Government Fuel Finder scheme: the source of the price data. We don't send it anything about you.
We don't sell or share your data with anyone else, and we don't make automated decisions about you.
Your rights
You have the right to ask for access to, correction or deletion of your personal data, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to data portability where it applies. Because we don't keep your location or postcode, there's usually nothing held about you, but you're welcome to ask. Email scottmartin2711@gmail.com.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your personal data, email scottmartin2711@gmail.com with the subject Data protection complaint. We'll acknowledge it within 30 days, look into it, keep you updated and tell you the outcome.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or call 0303 123 1113.
Changes
If we change how Fuel Mapper uses personal data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
